Angel Reese is getting into shape for Unrivaled after she exited the WNBA season early owing to her wrist injury. But seems like even though her rookie WNBA season has ended, some storylines have continued.
One of them being the sudden departure of her former Windy City teammate Marina Mabrey to the Connecticut Sun right before the Olympics break. Now, playing in the Rose Basketball Club has reunited her with her old teammate and the latter is answering why she made the mid-season move while also debunking the ‘conspiracy’.
At the time of her requesting a trade from the Sky, Mabrey had made it clear that it was organizational issues that had her wanting to leave the Sky. But some unsavory comments asked whether it was because of a certain player.
Taking them in stride, Reese asked Mabrey on a recent live video, “Money Mabel, we have a conspiracy.”
Mabrey asked, “What, what happened? It’s live, I can’t even think of an answer.” Both players laughed as Reese finally posed the question, “People wanna know – Marina did you leave Chicago because of me?”
The Sun player didn’t even hesitate to say, “No. I love Angel. The real one’s know.” Mabrey makes a hand heart to show her love and then tries to make one with Reese as well but both collapse into laughter. The Sky star then asks her Unrivaled teammate to twerk for the camera and Mabrey happily obliges, sending them both into a fit of giggles again.

Mabrey had previously said of the Chi-Town Barbie, “Angel’s personality is great. She comes out, she’s always having fun. She’s kind of contagious with her energy and stuff so just being her teammate and watching her grow has been something that I’m proud of.”
The two Rose teammates have been having fun on social media as Reese also teased Mabrey about her dance skills when the Sun player posted a video of her shaking a leg to LiAngelo Ball’s viral song “Tweaker.” “Marina, i think you can do better😭😭🤣” Reese said on X, to which Mabrey replied that she would try.
Nevertheless, what seems like effortless friendship now might have taken some time to develop.

An X video from a fan from Aug. 23 shows the Chicago Sky squad and the Connecticut Sun squad on the court but not in their uniforms. Presumably warming down after their game in an empty stadium, the players hug around as some say bye to leave. It was their first meeting post the Olympics and Mabrey’s first game vs. the Sky post the trade.
What’s interesting to note is that while Mabrey does hug some teammates goodbye, it doesn’t include Reese. In fact, the two don’t even talk and just pass each other by. Former Sun coach Stephanie White and former Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon are also visible but then Reese almost moves off camera to the right, whereas Mabrey moves out to the left.
There may have been some hard feelings back then but for now, at least, everything seems to have been resolved. In a twist of fate, however, the Rose BC faces Vinyl, coached by none other than Weatherspoon. Get your popcorn ready now!
