NBA – Draymond Green makes a clean break on the Fox-Wembanyama duo: “That explains his refusal”
After weeks of negotiations, De’Aaron Fox has indeed joined the Spurs on the sidelines of the recent trade deadline.
A major move to which Draymond Green finally reacted, giving his opinion on the pair formed by the guard with Victor Wembanyama.
While the NBA transfer market has offered its share of twists and turns to fans of the league, those of the Spurs were particularly excited before its closing.
Indeed, after months of waiting for the arrival of a real star to accompany Victor Wembanyama, they were able to celebrate the trade that allowed the franchise to attract De’Aaron Fox.
However, for the moment, this has not really translated into better results.
Of the four games in which the star guard has so far taken part with his new team, only two have resulted in victories.
Even more worrying, these two successes were acquired with relative pain and via fairly small score gaps.
Suffice to say that there is still work to be done on the San Antonio side, even if optimism seems to be in place for the years to come.
Draymond Green rules on the De’Aaron Fox-Victor Wembanyama pair
By getting their hands on Fox, the Spurs have both strengthened their squad in the immediate future, but also prepared very well for the future.
After all, at only 27 years old, the former Kings player seems capable of supporting Wembanyama for many years in his quest for the title.
Moreover, Draymond Green is not mistaken and gave a favorable opinion on this duo in the last episode of his podcast:
Draymond Green: I really like this duo. This is what the Spurs needed. It’s clean. Plus, they’re in a franchise that knows how to make it all work.
The two new sidekicks would therefore benefit from a perfect context to succeed side by side.
According to Draymond, this would also justify “Swipa’s” behavior before leaving Sacramento:
Draymond Green: That explains Fox’s refusal to sign an extension with the Kings. I think he already wanted to end up in San Antonio and play with Wemby.
To tell the truth, this seemed like an open secret in the NBA, as rumors about mutual interest between Fox and San Antonio quickly appeared.
For Green, the Texan franchise would have made a very big move in any case and is on the right track:
Draymond Green: You know what? I think the Spurs made one of the biggest robberies of the trade deadline. They managed to get De’Aaron Fox without having to include Stephon Castle. That’s why in my eyes, they can start sacrificing their future draft picks. They already have the core of their team for the future! Now, they just need to find the right fuel to perform.
Seduced by the complementarity of De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama, Draymond Green also salutes the Spurs for having kept Stephon Castle.
It remains to be seen whether the franchise will now be able to build around these three players.
