NBA – Wembanyama’s replacement finally found at the Spurs? “Never been happier”

The Spurs are currently going through a difficult period from which Victor Wembanyama is struggling to extricate them. Regardless, the franchise has decided to strengthen itself around the Frenchman’s poster, which clearly did not displease its fans given their reactions.

After climbing to 8th place in the Western Conference at the beginning of January, they have been stagnating for several weeks in 12th place. It must be said that the Spurs’ results (22-28) do not allow them to stay in the Top 10 of the rankings, i.e. the qualification zone for the Play-In Tournament. They have thus only won 4 of their last 16 matches, despite what Victor Wembanyama seems to say weakened.

Wembanyama’s backup finally found at the Spurs?

Coming off an impressive month of December, Wembanyama has slowed down somewhat. For the past month, he has been averaging “only” 21.1 points per game and is starting to be singled out by some fans. Affected by seasonal allergies, he could also deplore the lack of a replacement worthy of the name in his position. However, his franchise may well have found him in the last few hours:

A well-known name in the NBA ranks, Bismack Biyombo has not appeared since last April, when he was playing for the Thunder. Indeed, despite all his experience and qualities, the discomfort he suffered in the middle of a game had apparently cooled the league’s leaders’ opinion of him. He therefore spent the beginning of the season without a contract, before being relaunched by the Spurs.

In San Antonio, the 32-year-old Congolese pivot now has a 10-day contract during which he will have to prove himself in order to continue his journey there. His arrival has in any case already been welcomed by several supporters on X, delighted to see Wemby have a solid backup to allow him to rest:

It remains to be seen whether Biyombo will be more successful in this role than Zach Collins, sent to Chicago on the sidelines of the recent trade deadline.

After months spent without a real partner and competitor for the pivot position, Victor Wembanyama will now be able to be assisted by Bismack Biyombo. At least for a minimum of ten days, before the franchise decides whether or not to extend his contract.
