Locals came in for comfort food, quick conversation, and a break from the autumn chill outside.

For one woman, it was supposed to be just another shift.

Her name was Melissa Grant, a 34-year-old single mom who had worked at Ben’s for three years.
Known for her warm smile and razor-sharp memory, she could juggle five tables while remembering every regular’s usual order—extra pickles, no mayo, rye toast on the side.
