Rescuer Jumps Into Action After Seeing A Nose Poke Out Of Cardboard Box

When Suzette Hall pulled up to a shelter in Los Angeles, California, last week, she hoped to capture just one stray dog on the street. As the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, Hall is constantly searching for dogs to save — often on this very road — but this time, she got more than she’d bargained for.

“Sadly, they always just drop off dogs right by the shelter or tie them up right by the shelter because they don’t want to have to pay surrender fees,” Hall told The Dodo. “I have rescued so many dogs just on that street of the shelter.”

After trapping the dog she was initially after, Hall popped into the shelter to alert the staff of the rescue. But as she approached the door, she noticed someone with two cardboard boxes walking towards her.

The boxes were taped shut with holes on the side. Seconds later, Hall spotted a tiny white nose poke out from one of the holes and immediately jumped into action.

“[T]hese poor babies were being surrendered,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “[They were] popping their little faces up and noses out of the little holes.”

To Hall and the shelter staff’s surprise, each box housed a tiny, unsuspecting puppy being relinquished by the only family they’ve ever known. Thankfully, they had a team of rescuers willing to care for them.

With the shelter already at maximum capacity, Hall knew the pups would have a better chance at finding homes under her care, so she decided to take them in.

“It was honestly a little miracle that I was there, because they had taken them to the wrong shelter,” Hall wrote. “I was able to get them to just surrender them to me.”

The dogs, a little boy and a little girl, were confused and overwhelmed by the ordeal, but they felt instantly safe in Hall’s care. They soon embarked on a short road trip to Hall’s trusted vet, where they received full checkups and copious amounts of love.

“They are so incredibly sweet, oh my goodness gracious,” Hall said.

After decompressing for a few days, the puppies, named Eve and Forrest, went off to foster care. While they’re still searching for forever homes, Eve and Forrest are now living their best lives, enjoying daily cuddles in their warm beds and exciting adventures alongside their devoted foster families.

Hall is hopeful that Eve and Forrest will find their permanent families soon. Until then, she’ll keep soaking up every new image of them in their temporary homes, looking happier than ever.

“They’re little miracle babies,” Hall said, “and they are safe now.”
