“She just trying to prove…” Flau’jae Johnson reveals Angel Reese trait ‘people didn’t really know about’

Angel Reese captured the headlines in her rookie WNBA campaign for her prolific rebounding ability , recording the second-most in a single season in league history. However, her former LSU teammate Flau’jae Johnson revealed another skill of the talented big: her playmaking .

“[ Reese ] is a good rebounder, [but] she was also an aggressive playmaker,” Johnson said in an interview with the New York Post . “I think that was something that people didn’t know about her game, she could pass the ball really well.”

In her two seasons with the Tigers, Reese was a two-time First-team All-American and two-time SEC All-Defensive selection, helping them win the 2023 NCAA Championship.

Her points and rebound tallies did most of the talking: Reese averaged 23.0 points and 15.4 rebounds during a history 2022-23 campaign.

Reese averaged 2.3 assists per game in both her seasons with the Tigers and then just a solitary assist a game in her rookie 2024 season with the Chicago Sky .

Johnson was also asked what makes Reese a special player and logically concluded, “Man, that rebounding.” Then, Johnson took the opportunity to shout out a current teammate.

“My teammate Aneesah Morrow, she came and kind of took Angel’s spot and put up Angel numbers. 20 and 20 and stuff like that,” she continued.

The junior was a Second-team All-American with DePaul in 2022 and a third-team selection in 2023. She’s poised to crack the first team (alongside Johnson) this year).

Johnson and Reese were thought to be close friends while teammates at LSU but have since grown apart gracefully and respectively. “”I still support Flau’jae,” Reese said in a September episode of her podcast ‘Unapologetically Angel.’

“We aren’t as close as we used to be. And there’s no hard feelings or anything, but we aren’t as close as we used to be. That’s why people always expect us to still be posting each other and stuff like that. But, like, we aren’t as close.

It happens,” she continued. “You don’t have the best relationships with everybody and don’t always continue relationships with people. So I wish her the best always, and I’m always gonna support her… but yeah, there’s no love lost

“Yeah, me and Angel, we aren’t as close as we used to be,” Johnson told the New York Post in an exclusive interview in the fall. “But I still support her 1000 percent. I was proud of her, just being in the W[NBA] and breaking records.
