An investigation is underway after actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead alongside a dog this week.

Hackman’s death and the deaths of his wife and dog are puzzling authorities, who have labeled his passing “suspicious.”

More information has come out in the hours since the announcement, and it paints a grim picture.

Hackman and his wife appeared to have been dead for “quite a while” when the couple and their dog were found dead on Wednesday, police say.

95-year-old Gene Hackman was discovered in a side room near the kitchen of the house, while his wife Betsy Arakawa was found in a bathroom.

The pair were both found with ‘similar’ signs of mummification and decomposition.

The BBC is reporting that cops found no signs of injury but deemed the deaths “suspicious enough” to investigate and have not ruled out foul play.

The two maintenance workers who found them said they had not seen them for two weeks prior to their deaths.

No official cause of death has yet been given, but Hackman’s daughter spoke to TMZ and said that she and her family are thoroughly convinced that there was a Carbon Monoxide leak.

Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead Wednesday.

Denise Avila, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said there was no indication they had been shot or had any wounds.

Initial findings from preliminary autopsies performed show there was “no external trauma to either individual,” the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two healthy dogs were found on the property, but a dead German shepherd was found in a bathroom closet near Arakawa.
