Charlamagne tha God shut down Lara Trump on her own show, slamming her false statements about Trump’s accomplishments
Radio host and podcaster Charlamagne tha God savagely shut down Lara Trump on her own show on Saturday night as the pair discussed the first six months of Donald Trump’s second term as president.
The interview, which aired as part of My View with Lara Trump, was a reciprocal discussion — Charlamagne had Lara on his podcast, The Breakfast Club, last October, and so Lara decided to return the favor by having Charlamagne on her show.
She chalked up the decision to her desire to have diverse viewpoints on the program — Charlamagne identifies as center-left with his politics but doesn’t consider himself a Democrat despite voting mostly for Democratic candidates, while Lara, who is the daughter-in-law of President Trump, leans heavily right in her politics.

But the interview quickly went south, with Charlamagne fact-checking Lara in real-time and slamming her statements, at several points making baffled faces at her as he interrupted her.
A panicked Lara interrupted Charlamagne several times, too, desperately trying to move the discussion back in a direction supporting her conservative talking points.
“So look, we’re six months into President Trump’s second term in office. Now, I know you’ve been critical — you’ve had your bones to pick — with President Trump,” Lara began after introducing the New York City media personality.
Charlamagne wasn’t impressed with some of Lara’s takes
“If you took his name out of it and looked solely at what has happened, the policies and the things that have changed around the world and in our country over the first six months, how do you rate his presidency so far?” she asked him.
“Uh, I wouldn’t give it a good rating,” he answered, at which point Lara pressed him: “Why not?” His response was scathing.
“Simply because the least of us are still being impacted the worst,” he said. “When you look at something like the ‘big, beautiful bill,’ that’s something that I’m going to benefit from cause of the tax bracket that I’m in, but there’s going to be so many people that’s hurt by that bill.”
Lara attempted to push Charlamagne to make more agreeable statements as she became flustered with his answers to certain questions
“And anything that takes away Medicaid from people and puts people in a worse financial situation than they were previously in, I’m not for,” he added, referencing Trump’s flagship fiscal policy that slashes Medicaid and Medicare funding to make way for a higher defense budget for Trump’s “Golden Dome” defense system.
‘No’: Charlamagne’s savage 1-word response
“And he ran on that. He ran on the economy. He ran on saying that grocery prices are going to be down,” Charlamagne continued.
Lara interrupted him, asserting, “That has happened.” Charlamagne immediately quipped back: “No.” He sounded exasperated as he spoke, shaking his head as he regarded Lara with a bewildered expression.
“Inflation is trending down,” Lara continued, unfazed, prompting another, firmer “no” from Charlamagne, who sounded even more exasperated that time.
Eager to finish her point, Lara, who by then had noticed Charlamagne’s interjections, kept speaking, touching on Medicaid and voicing her opinions on the cuts to the program featured in the “big, beautiful bill.”
“And by the way, Medicaid, we want to make sure the people who are not actual recipients or shouldn’t be getting Medicaid are off Medicaid so it can actually benefit more people,” she said.
“There is good stuff in that bill, though,” she continued, now appearing desperate to highlight the benefits of the spending package after Charlamagne slammed it. “You have the 2017 tax cuts that are made permanent, and that really is for everybody,” she said.
“Tax cuts for who, though?” Charlamagne demanded.
Sputtering, now obviously flustered by Charlamagne’s rebuttals, Lara responded, “But that’s for everyone. Everyone in this country is impacted by that.”
“You also have things, by the way, like money going to school choice for parents across this country. There is a lot of good that I think will come out of the ‘big, beautiful bill,'” she continued.
There was a beat, and then Charlamagne continued speaking. “Right now, people are hurting. He campaigned on immediate change, day one change,” he said of Trump.
“And you don’t think you’ve felt any change?” Lara clarified. “No,” Charlamagne bluntly answered. That got Lara more flustered, so she pivoted to other policies of Trump’s that aren’t as connected to his “big, beautiful bill.”
“Do you feel safer knowing that Iran will not have the ability to develop a nuclear weapon?” she asked. It was Charlamagne’s turn to sputter flusteredly, with the radio host clearly taken aback by the question and how the conversation had pivoted.
“Iran?” he clarified. “Yeah,” Lara answered. “Sure, I feel safer. So, you’re telling me that a country won’t have the ability to build a nuclear weapon. Yeah,” he said.
A point of agreement
“Do you feel better knowing our border is closed?” Lara asked him, causing him to sputter once more as he took in the question. “Uh, yes. Absolutely,” he said.
“So, there are things!” she said, now excited that he was giving agreeable answers. But Charlamagne wasn’t done speaking, and he continued on his tirade, eager to clarify that, just because he likes some of the things Trump has done, he isn’t in favor of most of them.
“Don’t get me wrong — there are certain things that I absolutely understood, like as far as border security. But I understood border security for different reasons,” he said.
“People were complaining about the border. They felt like people were coming into the country and taking jobs away from people in certain areas, in certain communities,” he continued. “And that is the conversation that I have been hearing for the past year and a half prior to the election. I understand.”
“But, I want to see the criminals and illegal immigrants actually deported,” he added, at which point Lara interrupted him once more, stating, “Now, that’s happening.”
Without missing a beat, Charlamagne continued, clarifying his point: “Not people who are here trying to go through the process of being in this country legally. Like, when you see people getting deported or getting detained, and they’re actually trying to go through the process of being American citizens, that’s not right.”
Both parties paused for a moment before the argument on immigration heated up, with Lara espousing her favorable views on Trump’s crackdown as Charlamagne took a more humanitarian but diplomatic approach.
The pair argued for the better part of an hour, going back and forth for almost the entire length of Lara’s show — though most of the moments weren’t quite as dramatic as their opening sequence.
