Gene Hackman’s daughter has disclosed what she believes killed her father following the discovery of the actor’s body at his house in Santa Fe, New Mexico, this week.

Hackman, 95, is dead after an acting career spanning 60 years. His wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, was also found dead at the residence, as well as one of their three dogs. They are believed to have been dead for at least a day before they were found.

One of his children, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, has shared her thoughts on the death with TMZ, telling the outlet the family suspects carbon monoxide poisoning.

Elizabeth also confirmed that the authorities did not find any evidence to suggest there was foul play, although Sheriff Adan Mendoza hasn’t ruled it out as yet. She did not provide any information on the state of her father’s health, but the ‘Hoosiers’ star was spotted using a cane to walk when he was last seen in public nearly a year ago.

Elizabeth is the second of three kids Gene Hackman had with his ex-wife, Faye Maltese, with son Christopher their first and daughter Leslie the last.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy,” Elizabeth, Leslie, and granddaughter Annie said in a statement to Parade. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”

Gene did not have any children with Betsy.

The family is said to be actively getting things in order for a burial, with a date and other details for a memorial service to be released later on
