Just grab ’em by the tootsies.
A deepfake video showing Donald Trump kissing and rubbing Elon Musk’s feet played on a continuous loop across screens inside the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) headquarters on Monday.
The screens, which were reportedly hacked, displayed the AI-generated clip alongside the words: “Long Live the Real King.”
The phrase echoed Trump’s recent social media post in which he declared, “Long live the King,” with an illustration of himself wearing a crown.
According to an unnamed HUD worker quoted by Wired, agency staff had to manually turn off each screen to stop the footage. “It was surreal,” the employee said.
The video appeared only days after Musk issued a decree requiring all federal employees to give a weekly report of their job achievements.
“Approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week,” the directive ordered, stressing that failing to comply would result in resignation.
Because of the sensitive nature of their job, several agency managers, particularly those in charge of national security, advised their employees to disregard the instructions.
According to The Economic Times, Trump’s new HUD Secretary, Scott Turner, tried to ‘pivot’ after the video appeared all over his department, saying “The televisions inside the agency are now showcasing the wins of the Trump administration, including action to lower the cost and expand the supply of affordable housing.”
“We expect the media to cover these historic achievements with the same level of detail and immediacy as other frivolous stories.”
Fat chance Scott, not while the media is still free. Besides, the AI video might not be real, but it doesn’t mean it’s not true.
